Here’s a nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of midtown living.  Check out the Victorian Bed & Breakfast of Staten Island for your stay in New York City. This elegant bed & breakfast, located on the North Shore of Staten Island in the town of West New Brighton, is a beautiful Italianate villa built back in 1846. It boasts original Victorian decor of circa 1860 including chandeliers and many pieces of furniture. Many prominent New Yorkers were entertained here including Edward G. Robinson, the actor who portrayed gangsters in many movies and a real gangster, Bugsy Siegel.

As a guest, you will enjoy warm hospitality and home cooking. There are two floors of bedrooms, two rooms with a bath on each floor and each morning you will awake to a hearty country breakfast served between 8am and 9:30am. Amenities include AC and ceiling fans, bathrobes, coffee/tea facilities, hair dryer, satellite/cable TV, radio, alarm clock and Internet.

The Victorian is open all year and requires a one night non-refundable deposit to hold a room. Restrictions are no smoking, no pets and the Victorian is not suitable for small children and handicapped persons.

Rates are single occupancy-between $85.00 and $90.00 (private bath), double occupancy-between $115.00 (shared bath) and $125.00 (private bath). Additional person $40.00.

ALLIE’S INN BED AND BREAKFAST

Who knew? A bed and breakfast in the heart of New York City.

Allie’s Inn offers luxury hotel style studios with the feel of a country bed and breakfast just a 5 minute walk away from City College and a short train ride away from Columbia University. Great way for Mom and Dad to visit their college student for special events, including graduation.

Allie’s Room is a newly renovated large sunny studio with a queen size bed and a daybed with trundle. It has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, private bathroom with skylight and large walk in closet. One of Harlem‘s best kept secrets is The Harlem Grand B&B.

Located just a few blocks from 2 major subway lines, Harlem Grand is in the heart of Harlem at 343 West 122 St. Harlem Grand has been welcoming guests from all around the world since 2007. It features the Dandridge Room with Queen size bed, vanity, floor to ceiling windows, closets and dressers. The Portier Room boasts an extra large bedroom with en suite bathroom and sleeps 4 comfortably.

All of the reviews I read were favorable. Guests liked the convenience of being near transportation and restaurants (Harlem Grand does not serve breakfast) and all mentioned the quiet area and how safe they felt being there. Guests also remarked how the innkeeper, Kellyn A. Tillers, made them feel comfortable during their stay.
