Historic Lower East Side

Put on your walking shoes and explore the historic Lower East Side. This downtown neighborHOOD was home to hundreds of thousands Irish, Jewish and Italian immigrants. Examine the architecture of the area’s buildings. Learn to distinguish between a row house and a tenement and see examples of rear tenements, dangerous holdovers from an era of unregulated overcrowding in the mid-19th century.
This walking tour will be this Sunday May 16, 2011 at 10:45am. The meeting spot is the corner of Canal and Eldridge Streets in Manhattan. For more information, visit nycjewishtours.org.
Admission price is $16 adults, $14 students and seniors, add $2 if purchasing ticket on day of tour.

This is a dream I’ve had for over 10 years. Got the idea from a dear friend and former co-worker, Robert Cornegy, who stated that it would be nice if visitors to New York, especially ethnic visitors, could find things that would interest them in addition to the regular tourist attractions. This would also be a great way for native New Yorkers to know what treasures, nuggets if you will, they have in their very own back yard.
