Where is the hippest little place in New York? City Island of course. Bet you didn’t know that.

City Island is a tiny community only 1.5 miles long and just 6 blocks wide. WOW. It boasts soft sea breezes in the summer, the look of a small New England town and some great seafood. The population is about 4,500 people.

Being an island, it has a rich nautical history which includes the building of WWII PT boats and submarine chasers as well as world class racing yachts including all Americas cup winners of U.S. registry.

Most people get to City Island by car but you can reach the Island by taking the #6 subway to the Pelham Bay stop and transferring to the #29 bus to City Island. If you are driving, however, you can take 195 to exit 8B Orchard Beach/City Island or the Hutchinson River Pkwy to exit 5. You can even get to City Island by boat. How cool is that?
